07/05/2012 - 2012 World University Championships
Seven Taekwondo Australia members have been selected in the squad of sixteen to represent Australia at the 2012 World University Championships to be held in Pocheon, Korea from 25 - 30 May 2012. All athletes selected are registered Sports Members and were advised that nominations were open to all tertiary students regardless of which sports association they were affiliated with.
Taekwondo Australia through its TAPS initiative is supporting the athletes with a grant of $1,000 each to assist with their team expenses which has been set by Australian University Sports at up to around $2,550. In addition, through the generosity of our major sponsor, Jols Martial Arts, Australian Team athletes will be outfitted with adidas competition doboks.
Taekwondo Australia wishes all team athletes the very best for the competition which is the pinnacle event for university athletic students world wide.

07/05/2012 - Technical Selection Competition
It gives us much pleasure to invite you to participate in this Technical Selection Competition to select a team to compete at the 2012 World Taekwondo Hanmadang in Korea, commencing 5 September 2012. While we are still awaiting some details, we also hope to combine this competition with a training camp in Korea, as well as the possibility of attending the Korea Open and the World Taekwondo Day celebrations on 4 September 2012.
The exact dates and events of the Korea Open are yet to be confirmed, but the Hanmadang will feature Team and Pair events for both Junior and Senior age groups, as well as Kyokpa (breaking) events. It is our understanding that for the first time it will also feature Individual Poomsae for the three Master’s age divisions.
We look forward to Sports Members taking the opportunity to participate in this event which is also eligible for TAPS points. This September, Adelaide will play host to over 6,000 tertiary students from universities across Australia. With thirty sports to be contested over five days between 23-28 September, the 2012 Australian University Games are an important fixture on the Australian university sports calendar.
Taekwondo Australia is pleased to announce that it has been selected to run the taekwondo section of the Games. The final date for the taekwondo event is still to be confirmed, but the organising committee has advised that it will endeavour to schedule the event so that it does not clash with other national taekwondo events.
The Games will cover both Sparring and Poomsae events and are open to all tertiary students regardless of their club or association affiliation.
The taekwondo segment will be organised and run by our South Australian Division with assistance from the national body. Further information will be provided as soon as the program is released.07/05/2012 - 2012 Pan Pacific Masters Games
Taekwondo Australia in delighted to announce that through our Queensland Division the Association will be conducting the taekwondo event at the 8th Pan Pacific Masters Games which will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland from 3 to 11 November 2012.
It is anticipated 11,000 participants from all over the world will compete in the multi-sport event which has stamped itself on the calendar at the beginning of November every two years. In 2012, 40 sports will be on the program, including taekwondo which will include both sparring and technical events.
No qualifying standards are required to enter the Pan Pacific Masters Games. The only criterion is that participants meet the minimum age requirement for their respective sport, which for the majority is 30 years of age. Participants compete in their age group ensuring that the sport is played fairly, competitively and in tremendous spirit.

Over 70 members attended the Poomsae Judges Course held in Melbourne on Sunday 29 April 2012. 37 judges renewed their qualifications, and 18 new judges were inducted. In addition, 12 junior members attend for the opportunity to update their poomsae knowledge.
Six states were represented, being Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. The Technical Delegates and Presenters from five States were also present, including Masters: Suk Woo Ko (NSW), Chris Blight (Qld), Kim Seng (WA), Dang Nguyen (SA), Greg Butterworth, Cheri and David Ottway (Victoria) Annette Buss (WA) and Ben Flinn (Qld). John Redgrove (Tas) who holds the Board's technical portfolio was also in attendance.
The course was presented by Masters: Russell Wood, Julius Burai, Robert Schembri and David Atkinson. Master Ko provided an insight into the meaning of Poomsae, as well as an explanation of the requirements for Presentation scores in Poomsae.
The program consisted of a review of all Poomsae from Taeguk One to Hansu. Judging practice included both paper scoring and “One on One” style flag scoring and overall the course was very popularly received.
